2022-23

Diabetes Screening and Awareness Program

Department of Nutrition at St. Ann’s stands firm on public health with a motto of spreading awareness & promoting health.As one of the social responsibilities, the Nutrition Department has conducted various awareness programs in lieu of WorldDiabetes Day, which is celebrated ever year on 14th Nov.

MSC and Diploma students conducted 12 Diabetes screening and Awareness programs by educating the people regarding diabetes along with the screening sessions. Distribution of handouts in Telugu, Hindi & Urdu were done.

The feedback received from the Beneficiaries showed that they were inspired towards being healthy, staying away from faulty habits leading to poor health.

Outreach activity in collaboration with GMR, Varalakshmi Foundation

As a part of departmental social responsibility, the Dept of nutrition in collaboration with GMR, Varalakshmi Foundation has conducted nutrition awareness programs at different villages in and around Shamshabad.

Following are the details of the 4 events which have been conducted during the year 2022-23:

  • Organized an Awareness programme on breastfeeding and its significance for all pregnant and lactating mothers on 4th and 8th August 2022 in view of World Breastfeeding Week celebrated between 1-7 August at
  • As a part of National Nutrition Month 2022 the BSC III-year students from department of nutrition conducted a nutrition awareness program on nutritional requirement in pregnancy, lactation and complementary feeding for pregnant and lactating mothers at Ranganayakulu colony,Shamshabad in collaboration with GMR Varalakshmi foundation on 20th September 2022.
  • As a part of World diabetes day celebration 2022 the MSC II-year students, M Urooja birjis and Dr. Khushboo from department of Nutrition conducted a Nutrition awareness program and diabetes screening camp, at Ranganayakulu Colony, Shamshabad in collaboration with GMR Varalakshmi foundation on 24th November 2022
  • Hannah Jessie faculty, along with B.Sc III year NCB & NCZ 15 students went to GMR foundation as a part of NEP Program and International year of millets on 13.3.2023.The students prepared and demonstrated various millet based recipes for Pregnant & Lactating mothers.

Nutrition Education Program (NEP) on Awareness of Millets

Another departmental social responsibility is to carry forward the legacy of reaching out the community through Nutrition Education Programs (NEP). The year 2023 has been declared by the United Nations as the international year of Millets. The final year students took up the responsibility to spread the awareness of the same among the children, young adults, adolescents and adults. Total of 21 programs were carried out in different places of Hyderabad.

2020-21

  • The outreach programmes conducted as part of National Nutrition month and Nutrition awareness programmes conducted by the outgoing batch conducted in the month of JUNE 2020 contribute towards the Departmental social Responsibility.
  • As part of National Nutrition Month, the Department organized a grow your veggies challenge. This was to make the people in general aware about growing their own greens in the comfort of their homes.
  • All the faculty members contributed 25% of their salary in the month of April -May to provide relief packages to the poor and needyย affected due to covid 19 pandemic.

2019-20

1.Final year graduate students of Nutrition took part in one day awareness programme on โ€œStudents social responsibilityโ€ organized by the Dept. of Business Management. The programme was organized with the aim of inculcating the spirit of social responsibility amongst the students. The theme for the event was โ€œHappiness’ ‘ and the students of Bojagutta Govt.School took part in this event. The event took place on 4 December 2019 at St.Josephs Auditorium, St. Annโ€™s College for Women.

  1. Students of NCZ final year conducted a Diabetes Awareness camp on 25th jan 2020 at a community walkers park near college where they tested the blood glucose levels and also provided diabetes friendly food recipes as samples and counselled the participants in diabetes management.

3.The students of MSC first year conducted a Diabetes awareness walk on 16th November 2019 in the public garden. A talk was also arragend by a Diabetlogist and Nutrition talk was presented by Dr Meena Kumariย 

2018-19

Nutrition Education programs during

  1. a) World Breastfeeding Awareness week
  2. b) As a part of curriculum, NEPs were conducted by B.Sc.Final year students
  3. c) NEPs in collaboration with GMRย 

Anaemia Awareness program at GMR

  • Final year NCZ students along with Mrs Phani Kumari organized Anaemia Awareness program where theyย conducted anaemia checkup for women working in centres at GMR, Shamshabadย on 22-02-19.
  • PG Diploma students along with Urooja Birjis went to Zilla Parishad Schoolย GMR, Shamshabad. They conducted Anaemia screening & awareness programme, anaemia check up and counseling for school children of 8th and 9th standard on 26-02-19.
