2022-2023

  1. Research carried out by ALP students-traditional methods and genetics,antioxidant activity in plants and its role in repair of dna damage,PCOD,THYROID 
  2. Expert talk on “How i and why I choose a career in research” –Dr.raghunand RTirumalai,Scientist, CCMB
  3. Career counseling by alumni “Opportunities in genetics” by Ms. Hartitha Myakala,BGCI certified
  4. Guest lecture on “New Education Policy- 2020 Salient Features and Impact on Science Education at UG Level” Prof.Muralidhar Kambaduru,Visiting professor,School of life sciences,HCU
  5. Guest lecture on “Cerebral evolution” Prof.Momna Hejmadi,Assistant professor,Bath university
  6. “Be a scientist for a day” at Tata institute of fundamental research focused on various techniques and concepts in Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering.
  7. 27 students were provided Hands on training in advance techniques of human molecular biology and diagnostics at INSTITUTE OF GENETICS AND HOSPITAL FOR GENETIC DISEASES,Hyderabad

  9. Science Club organized “Science Gala” on the occasion of National Science Day on 28th February 2023
  10. V.Venugopal Rao, served as resource  person for MSc Applied Nutrition ,PG diploma in Applied Nutrition of St.Anns college   for Research Methodology & Biostatistics course; served as Academic counselor for the same course with IGNOU

2021-2022

  • Student research projects  were initiated  and completed in last year ,yet to be published  on genetic epidemiology  of  PCOS ,  Obesity studies and  impact of  traditional practices on  biological systems .
  • Panel discussion on research & career by prominent alumni.
  • Competitions’ for students-model making on  Molecular replica -idea to prototype  an interdisciplinary activity with department of  Biotechnology
  • HOD , Genetics Dr.V.Venugopal Rao  served as resource  person for MSc Applied Nutrition ,PG diploma in Applied Nutrition of Anns college   for Research Methodology & Biostatisitics course; served as Acdemic counselor for the same course with IGNOU.
  • Ethics committee member, MAA ENT Hospital’s Research foundation and was invited to participate  in a National conference on impact of COVID -19 pandemic on public life and future challenges ,actively participated in deliberations and discussions on trends in potency and genetic diversity  of the virus and possible vaccine solutions for efficacy in prevention.
  • Identified  as  coordinator for lecture series workshop online ,  as part of  Science Academies  Education Program sponsored by Indian Academy of Sciences, Benguluru on Molecular recognition in physiological processes.
  • Organized a workshop  on Molecular Techniques for students  under DBT star scheme along with other participating departments of  Microbiology and Biochemistry.
  • As convener of Science Club organized  competitions  on RESILIENCE , the theme of college with special reference to  Biodiversity and developments in science ;  Blood typing Awareness  and  demonstration of DNA extraction experiments were organized in college campus for students & staff.
  • Swapna, Faculty, Dept. of Genetics has successfully completed Two Day National FDP – on “Innovations and Intellectual Property Rights” held during 17 & 18 September, 2021.Attended 5 Day National FDP on “Voyage from Genes to Genomics” from 8th to 12th November, 2021 organized by Department of Genetics and Biotechnology, BVC
  • The art of Computational Biotechnology-A two day online workshop on Bioinformatics tools and techniques
  • Open day online(virtual platform) from CDFD

2020-2021

  • Genetics department was approved as one of the participating departments under DBT star college scheme 2020 ,sanctioned an amount 44 lakhs to update lab facilities ,student skill enhancement and research.
  • Initiated and established MOUs and linkages with premier institutes of research viz.,GMERF – Global Hospitals,Vasavi Hospital & Research centre,Institute of Genetics and Hospital for Genetic Diseases,Innobiome technologies,Triton Biosolutions&ALEAP –We Hub for Internships/student projects/COC/Research.
  • Faculty members (Dr.V.Venugopal Rao,Dr.N.Swapna) rendered research consultancy for DNB students and M.Sc.Applied Nutrition students for analysis of  data collected for their dissertations  using SPSS package.
  • Students were encouraged to takeup ALP projects ,which resulted in publications in International Journals.
  • One of the published papers was recognized and included in the compiled book’ Recent Progress in Microbiology and Biotechnology’ vol.4.Dec 29th ,2020
  • HOD(Dr.V.Venugopal Rao ) was awarded SARA(St.Ann’s Research Award 2016-17for significant contributions in research.
  • V.V.Rao served as Ethics committee member DDHRC- Hyderabad for a period of 5 years
  • V.V.Rao was appointed as subject expert to frame syllabus for Integrated M.Sc.program in Biological Sciences of SSSIHL,Prasanthi Nilayam,Ananthapur Dist.
  • V.V.Rao was nominated as SAC (Scientific Advisory Committee) member of MAA research foundation.

2019-2020

  • A panel discussion was organized by Dept of History & Dept of Genetics on History of evolution of Human Genetics –an interdisciplinary analysis of the subject.
  • A guest lecture on ‘SCIENCE IN SANSKRIT “ was organized by both Dept of Genetics and Dept of Sanskrit in as an inter disciplinary
  • Someswar Rao .Associate professor, Dept of Genetics , OsmaniaUniversity delivered a lecture on dna sequecing methods and applications
  • one day intercollegiate workshop on bioinformatics” organized by Departments of Genetics and Biotechnology , St.Ann‘s college for women in collaboration with varsha bioscience and technology , India Pvt. LDevelopment of scrap books on theme “News about  advances in Life Sciences”
  • Mock genetic counselling as part of cia 3 for 3rd years.

2018-2019

  1. A panel   discussion was  organized BY Dept of History & Dept of Genetics on  History of evolution of Human Genetics on 2-7-2018 to discuss the importance and role of human genetics –an interdisciplinary analysis of the subject .The experts were Dr. Pratibha Nallari Retired professor of Genetics  and Ex -Director ,Institute of Genetics and Hospital for Genetic  Diseases ,Mrs. Anuradha Reddy  representing NGO and other experts who gave their valuable suggestions and recommendations for the improvement of the subject area .There were student  speakers also who presented power point  on the theme  and  the best ones were given prizes .The number of  student beneficiaries were 250 approx.
  2. A field trip was  organized to the Centre for cellular & Molecular Biology on opening day i.e. 26-09-2018 .
  3. A guest lecture on “SCIENCE  IN SANSKRIT “ was organized by both Dept of Genetics and Dept of  Sanskrit in the month of August 2018 as an interdisciplinary understanding of the subject . They were aware of the importance of ancient culture in scientific discoveries and innovations. 
  4.  Guest lecture on  DNA  SEQUENCING METHODS   AND APPLICATIONS  on August 8th 2018 by Dr. Someswar  Rao .Associate professor,  Dept of Genetics   Osmania University
  5. Attended one day seminar “ALZHEIMERS AWARENESS” LECTURE ON “THE PROBLEM OF DEMENTIA WHO IS AT RISK”  on 20 September 2018 at Maulana azad national urdu university.
  6.  On behalf of the science club, the department of genetics has organized an awareness programme on the importance of blood transfusion and genetic basis on 6th dec at Tulasi high school near masab tank for the classes 8-10 school children.
  7.  Intercollegiate competition:An inter college competition was jointly organized by the departments of genetics,microbiology,biochemistry,biotechnology on following activities and the best were given prizes on 19 th December.
  8. on behalf of science club a competition with the theme” EDIBLE SCIENCE “ MODEL MAKING USING COOKIES,CAKES etc was organized on jan 18 2019
