Outreach/Extension Activity 2023-24

Chota Scientist – (2 Month long-National Science Day Celebrations in Govt Schools) In collaboration with Youth For Seva , Department of Biochemistry Faculty & Students coordinated the Chote Scientists program in different Government schools over a 2 month period. The event was inaugurated with a 2 Day Orientation session on Chota Scientist Program. Then students were divided into groups to visit the schools and demonstrate science experiments related to Chemistry, Biochemistry & Physics. The school visits were scheduled six times for every team. At the end of the program school students were given an opportunity to prepare a science exhibit and present in our college campus as part of Science exhibition to observe National Science Day. Best Exhibits were awarded with Medals & Certificates. 250+ Volunteers trained students of 18 Government Schools in Scientific concepts & experiments based on Physics ,Chemistry & Biochemistry 2022-23 National Science Day –Outreach Activity at 5 Government schools
  • National Science Day Celebrations organised by six teams of students(25 of them) from final year at five Government schools GHS Shaikpet, ZPHS Darga and ZPHS Kulsumpura on Feb 28 2022, organised fun activities and science experiments with the Teaching Kits that the students have designed and developed to teach concepts on PH , Chromatography, DNA extraction, Testing Adulterants in milk, Analysing Sugars in food samples.

2021-2022

  • On the occasion of National science day, students from the department of biochemistry went to 3 Government school, shaikpet, Secunderabad,Darga.
  • The main objective of National Science Day is to bring awareness to people about the importance of science in our daily life and to encourage people by popularizing Science and Technology.
  • Children of government school got exposed to the live experiment – Raman effect performed by student volunteers, also conducted a quiz.
  • The top performers in the quiz activity were awarded with Pens and rest all the students received chocolates for being very interactive throughout the session.
  • The Department of Biochemistry and Dharini Eco club of St. Ann’s College For Women in collaboration with Apna Green Products organized an Outreach Activity-Awareness session on Eco Friendly Alternatives to Plastic Pads and Donation Drive in GHS Deval Jham Singh School, Gudimalkapur, AsifnagarMandal (Girls – 262 no.VI to X Class)

2020-2021

  • Instagram posts and stories developed by students of Biochemistry on environment related activities to create awareness on environmental issues
  • Organised Webinar to create awareness on Food Wastage topic and how to deal with this problem
  • Conducted a Poster competition on Food Wastage

2019-2020

  • 5 Students of BBC Final Year have organized an awareness Campaign on “Menstrual Waste Management” in the College Campus.
  • The Target Groups for the awareness are the Students of Eco-club and NGO Management on 7 August 2019 and NSS Students on 5 September 2019.
  • Similar campaign was also organised in a Government school in Mehdipatnam.
  • The campaign deals with creating awareness on Menstrual Hygiene practices through charts, posters, pamphlets made by the volunteers. Videos were screened .
  • The main focus of this awareness is to make students aware of the eco- friendly alternatives available which can be practiced to prevent or avoid environmental pollution caused by menstrual waste.
  • The department in collaboration with Green waves, is involved in Dry waste collection and recycling.

2018-2019 Outreach Activity on Menstrual Waste Management

  • The Department conducted an Awareness programme on Menstrual Waste management- and Eco-friendly alternatives for School students at Raidurgam Government high school .
  • Five Students from second year and Five students from final year Devi Prasanna,Y.Shivani, T.Bhargavi ,K.Prathyusha ,Atika Fatima as two groups have organized an awareness campaign “Green The Red” in our college campus and also in Government schools near Mehdipatnam and Tolichowki.
  • The main focus of this awareness is to educate the girl students about the eco- friendly alternatives available which can be practiced to prevent or avoid environmental pollution caused by menstrual waste.
  • A Google survey form has been shared among student groups to know the mindset of the present teenagers about their willingness to switch on to eco-friendly products during menstruation
  • Also, the department in collaboration with ITC, is involved in Dry waste collection and recycling
