PSO1 – A student with Modern Language as an optional is in high demand for choosing a path in the arena of media, publications, Information Technology Enabled Services (ITES) and related services. Students with HLP background can opt as Linguistic Trainers with specialization in Literature and English/ IELTS related jobs /Translators / Aesthetic club / Curators at Museum.

SEMESTER – I

Course title – Introduction to English Language and Literature

Students completing this course will be equipped to

 

CO1: Explains the significant developments in the history of English and how English language has changed over time from its origin to the present day 

CO2: Comprehends the significance of Elizabethan literature and the writers belonged and its impact on literary works produced world over..

CO3: Reads short stories and novels analytically and interpretively, to identify and analyze literary elements like plot, character, setting, tone, point of view, theme, style, symbol, metaphor, and image

CO4: Analyzes and interprets themes found in literature and intellectual movements of various literary periods.

           SEMESTER – II

Course title: English Poetry

Course code: LIT202

Students completing this course will be equipped to

CO1: Demonstrates a skillful use or knowledge of major poetic devices, such as metaphor, imagery, lineation, persona, types of rhythm, rhyme and other sonic effects and understand Poetic devices as tools that a poet can use to create rhythm, enhance a poem’s meaning, or intensify a mood or feeling.

CO2: Distinguishes the use of classic poetic forms, such as the sonnet, the ode, and the elegy, as well as other contemporary, experimental, or avant-garde forms. 

CO3: Discusses the significance of the historical period on the poem by analyzing the effects of the major events of the period. 

CO4: Identifies the Romantic Movement and its implications in the works of second generation Romantic poets-Keats and Shelley while thoroughly

examining prescribed text like “Ode To a Nightingale”

                   SEMESTER – III

Course title – English Drama

Students completing this course will be equipped to

CO1 : Comprehend the historical factors at work in the representative dramas of the 17th, 18th up to the early 20th century.

CO2 : Analyze drama in terms of the language, characters, and themes of the Age.

CO3 : Demonstrate knowledge of various kinds of British Drama from 17th c. to early Modern Age.

CO4 : Critically appreciate the theme-based One-Act plays of early 20th c.                  

SEMESTER – IV

Course title: English Fiction

CO1 : Study and understand the genre of British Fiction especially the evolution of the novel from the                     17th c. to the 20th c.

CO2 : Analyze the narrative technique of the epistolary, realistic and dystopian novel in various Ages.

CO3 : Critically analyze the short  story with reference to Elements of fiction i.e., Story, Plot Characters, Atmosphere.

CO4 : Comprehend the major themes and characteristics of the past vis-a-vis the Modern writers of the Victorian and Modern ages and the inter textuality of both.
