DIET COUNSELLING CELL
Today’s major health care problems are increasingly the result of acute and chronic conditions related to poor nutrition and/or over consumption. Individualized nutritional counseling can provide the patient important insight into food-related illnesses and education regarding how various nutrients (protein, carbohydrate, fat, alcohol) affect illnesses or obesity. Alternatively, dietary counseling can assist in prevention of nutrition-related conditions such as the need for weight management.
The Department of Nutrition at St Annโs College, therefore aims and encourages the inclusion in nutrition, as an important strategy for achieving maximal effectiveness in imparting quality nutrition education for healthy living and wellness.
Thus a need was felt to facilitate effective communication regarding health among students, public , parents of the students & staff of the institution to assist in prevention of nutrition-related conditions such as the need for weight management, prevention of Diabetes, CVD etc.
Ever since the Diet Counseling Cell was launched in the year 2006-07, the dept of nutrition is being actively involved in conducting Nutrition Education Programs within the college as well as outside the institution, as part of its extension services. The diet & nutrition counseling services are offered to the general public , parents of the students & staff of the institution.

The services are opened from 1:30 -2:30 everyday. The counseling is undertaken by the PG Diploma students on rotation under the guidance of faculty members.The students as part of diet counseling activity prepare and compile Disease Specific Nutritious Recipes and also prepare Informative e-Posters on nutrition related topic, which is used during counseling. All PG diploma students takes part in the diet counseling cell activity every year.
Apart from usual days,the diet counseling is very much active during special occasions like National Nutrition Month, World Diabetes Day, World Heart Day etc with inclusion of Activity like demonstration of Iron rich recipes to students who were found to be anaemic and display of informative charts for awareness on nutrition & health.
