To provide students the communicative skills to work in a multilingual globalworld.


To develop the communicative competencies in French by planning learning strategies with students to communicate and verbalize their ideas through collaboration, discussion and dialogue.

Faculty member Manjula Vittal Rao is the principal investigator in a Minor Research Project in collaboration with Mrs. Lata Subramanyam, Head Department of Psychology. The project is titled “An exploratory study to measure and identify factors affecting adjustment in college students at entry level.”
Faculty member Manjula Vittal Rao was appointed as co-author for two course material projects commissioned for Distance Education programs of Prof. G. Ram Reddy Centre for Distance Education, Osmania University and B.R. Ambedkar Open University.


French Newsletter
"Contact" a French newsletter was launched in 2006. The newsletter offers an opportunity to the students to explore the world of French language and develop their multilingual skills by publishing their reflections in a foreign language.

Faculty Level Workshop
The Department organized two faculty level workshops for teachers of French in Hyderabad. Ten French teachers participated in a workshop on “Internet and Foreign Language Teaching” held in November 2008. The resource person was Ms. Farida Irani, Reader, Delhi University.
12 teachers of French participated in a workshop on “Evaluation Techniques” held in July 2009. The resource person was Mrs. Manisha.S.Kumar, Academic Director, Alliance Française de Hyderabad.

Certificate Courses
The Department offered the following certificate courses in French:
2006 – 2007 Certificate course in French for PG students
2006 – 2009 Certificate course in French for PG students
2010 – 2011 A1 level French course for general public (4 months) with certification from Alliance Française de Hyderabad.

French Indian Idol Song contest
6 students participated in the National Indian Idol Song Contest in French in 2007. One student was selected in the semi-final (Hyderabad zone).
